10 Best Halloween Party Songs

By Isaac

Every October we hear the same lament, “why doesn’t Halloween have any good music?” Despite the fact that Halloween is one of the biggest party holidays of the year and nearly as commercialized as Christmas these days the music landscape seems barren when compared to the ubiquitous and never ending stream of Christmas themed music and albums. Why this is, is hard to say. Regardless, we here at The Nevermore Haunt are here to help.

If you’re looking for some crowd-pleasing Halloween music that’ll keep the party popping while providing some spooky vibes you’ve come to the right place. Here are our 10 favorite Halloween party songs.

10  – Thriller (Michael Jackson), Monster Mash (Bobby Pickett), Ghostbusters Theme (Ray Parker Jr.)

We’re going to list  these three together. When you came looking for Halloween music you probably already had these on your playlist. They’re classics, you might even be tired of hearing them by the time Halloween rolls around but you better put them on your party playlist. It’s what the people want.

Fire Dancers performing at The Nevermore Haunt Haunted Attraction Baltimore Maryland9 – A Nightmare On My Street – DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (Will Smith)

Yes, that Fresh Prince. This song is silly. If early 90’s Hip Hop nostalgia is your thing and you want something family friendly, A Nightmare On My Street is the perfect addition to the party.

8 – Surfin’ Dead – The Cramps

This rockabilly/surf rock jam from 1985 was featured in The Return of the Living Dead. It’s a toe tapper for sure.

7 – Pet Sematary – The Ramones

Quintessential Punk Rockers The Ramones singing a song about the classic horror film Pet Sematary, how much more Halloween could it get?

6 – Cry Little Sister – Gerad McMann

This 1987 rock ballad from The Lost Boys has all the feels. At about 2:35 into the song when the organ hits there will be no doubting this song’s spooky credentials.

5 – Halloween – Siouxsie and the Banshees

“Trick or Treat/  Trick or Treat/ The Bitter and the Sweet/ I wander through your sadness/ Gazing at you with scorpion eyes/ Halloween, Halloween” Does there exist any better Halloween Anthem?

4 – Evil Approaches – Reel Big Fish

Ok ok, I know, people have strong feelings about 3rd wave ska. If you’ve got smack to talk just keep scrolling. This is a fun song. Ska is fun. And parties are about fun. So if your Halloween party needs to pick it up pick it up pick it up this is the song to do it. (if this has you craving more check out JER’s 2021 Skalloween)

3 – The Hearse Song – Harley Poe

If you’re ready for your Halloween party to get a little weird, a little grotesque this graphic folk ballad about death and  decay, “the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out” will get everyone feeling some kind of way for sure.

2 – Killer Klowns – The Dickies

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a wacky 1988 horror-comedy about, you’ll never guess it, Killer Clowns from Outer Space. The song is heavy on the sounds and feel of a carnival, which can be a great reprieve after something like Harlye Poe. You can almost smell the cotton candy.

1 – Everyday is Halloween – Ministry
Another Halloween classic from the 1980’s (either the heyday of Halloween music… or our bias showing). This industrial synth heavy track expresses something many halloween enthusiasts can probably relate to. It would be nice. If you ask us, Halloween is special because it only happens once a year.
